Adventure in a Box is participating in the Story Book Summer series over at Rainy Day Mom. Every article of the series features a story book and related craft or game. This week the theme is fairy-tales, and I chose The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen.
I love the melancholic tone of Andersen’s fairy-tales. They seldom portray any horrifying acts of violence, but their characters rarely find their “happily ever after”, and not for the lack of trying. Remember the little mermaid who could not win the love of her prince despite her sacrifice and suffering? Andersen’s fairy-tales are painfully realistic, but they are also beautiful, and I cannot wait to introduce my son to the stories of The Ugly Duckling, The Wild Swans, and the Steadfast Tin Soldier.

And what is your favourite fairy-tale?
